Samurai Swords
Samurai swords are found in Japanese culture and were first created in the early 1300's when combat styles were changing. Samurai Swords are distinguished by a slim yet curved and single-edged blade that were quick and easy to draw and slice ones opponent in one movement. Also known as katanas, they are known for being synonymous with the Samurai and were used in their daily life.
The length of the blade ranged between 23 and 28 inches and was worn on the samurai facing up for ease and speed of use. Because of the samurai sword's sharpness and its purported use, the sword is viewed to have reached mythical status along with their Samurai counterpart.
The samurai sword was often worn with a smaller dagger-like sword called Wakizashi. When paired together, they showed the honor and social power of the Samurai and were even given a new name - the daisho.
It is important that the samurai sword be properly and well-cared for. The blade can easily rust from the moisture of ones hands if not oiled and polished on a regular basis. Also, it must be aired out if stored as mold can form from the polishing oil.
