Antique Swords
Swords have been used in many parts of the world for many centuries, dating back to the Bronze Age. These first swords were fairly short as long bronze swords were not very durable. As more and more knowledge of metal making was gained, longer swords began to emerge for combat purposes. In China, sword making dates back to the Shang Dynasty with swords made of bronze with a high percentage of tin, which made them stronger and more useful in battle.
As time passed, the 13th century was upon the world and the Iron Age was born. With new metals and metal working skills, mass production of swords were common among the Greeks and the Hittites to name just a few. Sword use became much widespread in countries throughout the world at this time.
In more recent times, swords were used by military in wars like the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Some countries still used swords in battle even during World War II.
For collectors, there is a whole host of antique swords that one may collect. From early bronze swords, to antique war swords and even replica swords, antique collectors have enjoyed collecting swords for many years.
